Since I Left You, CBD | Lifestyle
Arriving straight after work on a warm Tuesday evening, we took a seat in Since I Left You‘s courtyard, which, surrounded by three original Sydney storehouses, has an incredibly industrial feel, offset by the warm glow of heaters and strings of festoon lights.
We started with a trio of dips, washed down by some *very* potent cocktails – a ‘Smooth Criminal’ of Mezcal, Pimms and Ginger Cognac stirred with lemon juice and agave for me, and Gin, Aperol and a dash of bitter for Ben.
The piece de resistance, however, are the world-beating gourmet toasties: choose between either pulled pork with Swiss Gruyere cheese, Smoked Waygu with Sauerkraut or spicy Mexican chicken with hot sauce and guacamole, all served with eclectic sides such as spicy slaw or cornichons (my all-time favourite!).
We rounded off the evening by hot-footing it over to Regent Street in the CBD to queue up outside Uncle Tetsu’s, the latest food craze to land on Sydney’s shores (and thereby being the first outpost of the brand in Australia) who often have queues 75 people deep clamouring to purchase their famous Japanese cheesecakes and, as a result, are restricted to just one per person. You can plump to have your cake warm or cool, with each apparently providing a remarkably different taste. Opting for warm, whilst I can report that the texture was quite unlike anything I’d tried before, I couldn’t get past the taste f egg that lingers on your tongue, reminding me of warm scrambled egg & toast. Perhaps it just wasn’t sweet enough for me.
Since I Left You is on Kent Street and is open Monday-Friday from 4.30pm til late, and 6pm til late on Saturday’s. Uncle Tetsu’s is at 501 George St.
